I had only been to California once in my life. I was still in elementary school when I went with my family and the only memory I can recall is of going to Disneyland and being scared out of my mind on the Indiana Jones ride. So to say that I was excited to finally go back to the west coast years later with my boyfriend, Paul, would be an understatement. I already knew it would be an amazing vacation but it turns out that I really had no idea of how amazing it would be.
We set out to San Diego to visit a close friend of ours who is now living out there permanently. I packed appropriately for the trip, aka a handful of 35mm rolls of Portra800, my newly acquired Rolleiflex, and of course my phone at full charge for tons of picture taking.
The one place that I knew I just had to go to while out there was Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Google image search this place and you will be dying to go there too. Paul and I got picked up by our 2 friends and the 4 of us headed off to the cliffs. While I was preoccupied with the overwhelming beauty of the natural cliffs jutting into the Pacific Ocean, the boys were hatching a plan.
After a while it was decided that pictures needed to be taken of everyone with this beautiful background. When it came to my turn with Paul, we took our positions and our friends turned their cameras on us; but suddenly the one camera "wasn't working". I went to help my friend out and we quickly figured out the "problem". As I turned back around, the first thing that caught my eye was a diamond ring that was catching a million different colors in the warm sunlight. That's when Paul got down on one knee.
Of course I said yes! It was the best surprise I could ever have asked for and as you can imagine, we were on a blissful high for the rest of our trip!
The trip as a whole was incredibly fun and unforgettable. San Diego will forever be a magical place for Paul and I for years to come.
